LILI'S BODY CONTOURING

What is body contouring?

Body contouring, or body sculpting, can remove fat, shape areas of the body, and tighten skin. Lipolysis is a non-surgical option that uses cold, heat, laser, and other methods. Surgical options include folds, lifts, and liposuction. Surgery has more risks and a longer recovery time, but generally gives more noticeable results.

It may involve procedures to:

Get rid of the extra skin.
Eliminates excessive fat.
Reshape or contour the area.
Body contouring does not usually help you lose weight. Instead, it helps shape the body and target specific areas where weight loss is not effective or after significant weight loss results in more skin.

What are the different types of body contouring?

Non-surgical body contouring is called lipolysis. There are several methods of lipolysis:

Cryolipolysis uses very cold temperatures to destroy fat cells (for example, CoolSculpting®).
Injection lipolysis involves putting deoxycholic acid into the body to attack fat cells.
Laser lipolysis uses lasers to destroy fat cells (eg Zerona®).
Radiofrequency lipolysis uses ultrasound and heat waves to target fat cells (for example, truSculpt®).
Sometimes results may vary.

Options for surgical body contouring include:

Lifts and folds: These surgical procedures remove excess fat and skin. Examples include a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), face lift (rhytidectomy), breast lift (mastopexy), and jowl surgery.
Liposuction: Liposuction (lipo) suctions out fat deposits.

What are the advantages of body sculpture?

Many people who have body contouring report:

More defined and well-formed body parts.
Younger and slimmer appearance.
Smoother skin.
Symptomatic improvement.
The results of the surgery are more noticeable and immediate. With non-surgical options, it can take a few weeks or months to see a difference.

NOTE: Body contouring can help remove fat and reshape areas of the body where diet and exercise don’t work. Being at your ideal weight improves the quality of results with fewer complications. Lipolysis is a non-surgical procedure and liposuction is a surgical way of removing fat. Other body sculpting procedures, such as skin excision, can tighten and smooth loose or wrinkled skin. Talk to your health care provider about your options and your risks.
